Level of difficulty for patterns

At Susan's Family, you’ll find patterns with varying levels of difficulty. Each pattern is assigned a difficulty level from A to D:

1 Level A

This category is suitable for beginners. The projects involve no overly complex stitches or knitting/crochet techniques. In addition to a detailed charted pattern, we also provide a comprehensive video tutorial that walks you through every step—including all required stitches, knitting or crochet methods, seaming, and attaching accessories—with clear, step-by-step instructions.

Even complete beginners with no prior crochet or knitting experience can successfully complete the project by following the video guidance.

2 Level B

This category is designed for crafters with some prior experience, as it involves advanced knitting or crochet stitches such as popcorn stitch, bobble stitch, crossed stitches, and more. A basic level of crochet or knitting proficiency is required.

In addition to a detailed charted pattern, we provide a full video tutorial covering all construction steps. However, fundamental techniques—such as chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, knit stitch, and purl stitch—are not explained in detail, as we assume you already have sufficient experience using these basic stitches.

That said, essential finishing processes—including seaming, joining pieces, and attaching accessories—are demonstrated thoroughly with clear, step-by-step instructions in the video. Please note: only those with prior crochet or knitting experience will be able to comfortably follow along with the tutorial. 

3 Level C

This category is intended for crafters with extensive knitting or crochet experience.

In addition to a detailed charted pattern, our video tutorial will focus only on the more challenging aspects of the project—such as complex or uncommon stitches, or key steps that are difficult to convey clearly through charts alone. The tutorial does not provide a step-by-step walkthrough of the entire making process.

Crafters at this level are expected to have substantial hands-on experience and the ability to independently interpret schematic diagrams, stitch charts, and other technical visual materials. 

4 Level D

This category includes only a detailed charted pattern—no video tutorial is provided. Experienced knitters or crocheters should assess the difficulty of the project or the chart themselves and determine whether they can complete it independently.
